Help tracing an old registered land plot in TN (lost papers, but had patta)

Hi everyone,

We’re trying to trace a plot of land that belongs to our family in Veppambaattu (Tamil Nadu). It was registered properly and had a patta issued, but this was a long time ago — and unfortunately, we’ve lost the original documents over the years.

We’ve recently remembered the location but not exactly where and want to retrieve any possible records or proof of ownership. Has anyone here dealt with a similar situation or knows how to trace registered land when the original documents are missing but patta existed?

Would really appreciate guidance on:
• Where to start (Sub-registrar office? Taluk office?)
• If there’s a way to check old patta or registration details online
• Any relevant contacts or steps to request duplicate documents
