So I am from Gujarat and we got new fines that are like 10 times increased.

Most unreasonable fine that pissed me off is the 10k for not having PUC.

PUC is kinda useless if you have BS 6 vehicles or even BS5. Because what you can do to make it more efficient?

Moreover 10 k fine is just to increase the corruption because I make enough money to afford this fine but for me also it is high. Poor people either need to commit corruption or go to jail. We should be able to reach out to someone regarding this.

I read somewhere that only pollution control board can check PUC, police don’t have the right to check PUC

That’s a misinterpretation. It stemmed from a report that MH traffic police has issued an order that on road traffic officers should not ask for PUC certificates.

That is because in MH, PUC is digitalized and the Traffic police can check whether the vehicle has PUC certificates or not on their handheld devices. So as long as your PUC is valid, you don’t need to carry it physically with you.H traffic department has instructed only for physical/digilocker possession of RTO documents to ensure the vehicle is not stolen.

PUC is the most useless document that exists. Most testing equipment isn’t calibrated or works. It was always a way to extort money.

PUC is cheap and easy to get. Useless or not, it is mandatory and you either follow the rules or get fined. It’s as simple as that.

And if you’re so concerned, petition to remove PUC checks from newer vehicles, not to reduce fines, since that is your primary concern.

High fines are good. It’d make people think twice before committing infractions. I wish all states would implement them asap. We all know how bad our road sense is here in our country.

Man, PUC is cheap, but at least in my state, it is not digitised. I have to carry it physically everywhere, unlike other documents which sre available in digilocker.

I will tell you an unethical way. If you know any PUC check centres, you can bribe him a little and get a back dated certificate. You can use this to reclaim the fine you have paid. But this assumes that you have paid the fine and taken a receipt for it.

A friend of mine did it a few years ago. I’m not sure if it still works.

This is what your elected representatives are for.
