How to handle defamation complaint in hyderabad

Received a call from PS that a company has raised a complaint regarding defamation (Google review) and now they are calling me to come to ps. I need suggestions how to handle this.

You shouldn’t have deleted the review.

That being said. Defamation isn’t a cognizable offence. The police cannot register an FIR against you even if you don’t visit them.
This also could be a scam to extort money from you.

Things I’d suggest:

* Ask them to send you a legal notice mentioning the BNSS section.
* Ask for their names and the exact police station.
* Call the police station (google their official landline) and ask whether the cops named work there and if the number they’re calling you from is theirs.

I verified it. The name and number is coming from police station only. He is an SI. He called twice in span of twenty days to come and visit the station

May I ask how did you verify that is really is the real SI?

Also, what did you he tell you about the complaint?

He said that I am defaming the company and he called me to come registered police station. If he is fraud, then he will not ask me to come to station right?

If he’s a real cop then why not send a notice instead of calling you?

I don’t think you understand what a “non-cognizable” offence means.
A non-cognizable offence cannot be investigated by the police unless directed by a magistrate.

Nor do I think a real cop would demand a bribe on call or leave a paper trail by sending you a notice. (Especially if it’s a non-cognizable offence.)

He(SI) said case is not registered yet. It is a complaint as of now and may turn into registered case if I ignore. I had one of my friend who is a CI called this SI cop. If I go to police station, then I will come to know whether the cop is real or not so I don’t think a fake cop will dare to anyone to police station.

Also, my friend (CI) suggested that if an SI is asking me to come to police then I need to respect it and go to sort it out

If the police station isn’t too far away, then visit.

But defamation case isn’t cognizable offence. Police has no power to investigate it unless they have been ordered the magistrate having jurisdiction. But by then you would’ve likely received a notice.

First of all no need to worry and until they give you a formal notice to appear before the SHO. And just if they repeatedly calling you and asking you appear before them. You hire a lawyer and take a lawyer with you, Feel Free to ping me if you have any further questions.

Yesterday I went with my friend to police to sort out but they forced me to write a letter stating that I defamed them and I am responsible for the financial damages. What do I do now 😔

Today My lawyer spoke to SI who called me to station and my lawyer is asking me to come to station tomorrow to have a discussion with other party again. I am very much worried should I go or not. My lawyer with come along with me though. I have observed other party is trying influence people with money

I spoke to a new lawyer today as my old lawyer is not suggesting anything properly. The new lawyer has asked me to make a complaint in another nearby PS saying that the other party has forced me to write a letter outside the police station. I said police station has cctv recordings right where I wrote the letter and he said it’s okay it doesn’t matter so I am not sure whether to make a complaint in such a way?
