February 5, 2025 at 12:16 pmToday i applied for a new passport, and i have put my mothers surname as my surname in the input field. My appointment at the passport office is at 17. Will there be a problem for me on that day regarding my surname. My aadhar, pan and 10th report card all have only my first name. I can carry my mothers aadhar which has her surname to verify. So I wanted to know what will be the process on that day.
Thank you. -

February 5, 2025 at 12:24 pmThe name you have submitted is different from the one in documents. The officer might accept or change, but the RPO will call you for verification and might ask for an application to change the name as in documents or reject it to be filed against.-

February 5, 2025 at 12:28 pmIs it possible for the officer in the ps office to change it? What are the chances theyll reject it because i added a surname? My uncle kept telling me that no surname is a problem while applying for visas so, i just added a surname today. He was also suggesting me to get an affidavit with a advocate with notary sign stating all names in my documents are same person. So would that work with the verification on 17th? Or what else can i do?-

February 5, 2025 at 1:13 pmYour application will likely get rejected because of mismatch in surname. This can not be fixed with either a new application or the passport officer asking for an affidavit on the day of your appointment.

February 5, 2025 at 1:29 pmIn short yes.
You will have to apply again if you have already had your appointment. If you haven’t had your appointment yet and the application is only submitted then. You may be able to request the officer to keep the name as only your first name or as it is in all your other documents.
They may ask you to make an affidavit and submit it the same day but this totally depends on the passport officer and prevailing department norms.

February 5, 2025 at 1:30 pmGenerally it will help if you have any other document that has a surname. Even if the birth certificate or mark sheet has an initials, that can be expanded in passport as surname. Check with the passport officer. βDo not take passport without a surnameβ. Its a nightmare later. Speaking from experience.-

February 5, 2025 at 2:21 pmPlease get that rectified first. In my sons case I had to get the initials redone on his birth certificate. Which was accepted for modification in the passport as my son was a minor. If you are not a minor , I would recommend that you rectify the birth certificate first , then your Aadhar and slowly align all your documents including with same name.
