Is 50k for consultation with lawyer too much?

  It depends on the lawyer and place. A Delhi Supreme Court senior advocate will charge higher than this.
  
  A new lawyer with not a lot of years in him in a tier 2 city is overcharging.

      2k should be fine.
      
      I guess you might have approached high profile lawyer or given indirect indication that you are loaded party.

  Depends on the case, the lawyer and how much information was dispensed as consultation. If you’ve got the info on what to do and how to move forward with your case, it’s probably apt.
  
  What I do usually is to charge a consultation fee and then discount the consultation fee amount from the main fee.

  Usually first consultation is free. If the client comes and I were to just look at the papers and understand the case, it is not chargeable.
  As soon as I start working that is when I am entitled to raise a bill.
  However not all lawyers work this way.
  
  Secondly is this lawyer a senior lawyer with like 20-25 years experience? Then it would make sense to be charged for the first meeting.
  But if the lawyer is also giving you advice and what to do, then it can be charged.
