April 3, 2025 at 4:00 amIn light of the ongoing โmandatory practice clause controversy,โ I am curious to hear firsthand insights on the following:(a) Work Culture
What is the work culture like in litigation and corporate law for someone who has spent time preparing for the judiciary exam (whether less than two years or more than two years) but lacks a legal background or an NLU tag and now thinks to step into it ?
(b) Remuneration & Growth
What kind of remuneration and career growth can one expect in both fields?
(c) Reality vs. Hype in Litigation
Struggle is often cited as a common factor in the legal profession. However, people also say things like:
โข โBhai tu mehnat kar, litigation mai paisa hi paisa hai.โ
โข โ40 par jaake Lexus mai ghumega tu.โ
โข โNote ginne ki machine leni hogi.โWhatโs your view over this ? Is it a myth or reality?
My opinion w.r.t (c) –
I have a somewhat skeptical view of such claims. I donโt believe that all lawyers reach this stage. I have seen even high-profile lawyers struggling to get clients, some leaving practice midway, and others barely earning enough to sustain themselves.
It seems unrealistic to generalize success in litigation thatโs why itโs kinda bogus way to pacify young upcoming advocates coz mere hisab se vakalat mai bht factors bhi depend krte hai like Hardwork, Background, Contacts and most importantly Luck .

Iโd love to hear your take on this and any real-life experiences that shed light on the intricacies of a legal career.
Cheers!
