I’m working on a making a housing board for India but safety is a huge concern due to scams. To minimize risk, we want to implement user verification before allowing people to post listings or contact others.

However, I’m unsure about the legal limits on ID verification in India. Specifically:

1. Is it legal for a private platform to ask users for Aadhar verification for housing listings?
2. If not, what is the maximum level of verification we can enforce while staying within Indian data protection laws?
3. What are the best legal practices for verifying users without risking personal data theft or leaks?
4. Would collecting alternate IDs (voter ID, license) be more legally sound?

We want to create a safe space for people seeking housing while complying with Indian privacy and data protection laws. Any legal insights would be really helpful!
