March 13, 2025 at 10:43 pmNot a regular smoker, smokes once in maybe 4 or 5 months. Police came to our house coz my husband who visits my house once in a week, and smokes barely once in 4 to 6 months smoked in our own balcony. The neighbours complained and as police came and asked us to visit police station. Just 3 people said we received a complaint, please visit police station tomorrow at 10. How bad is our situation? Also, before smoking he made sure no1 was outside before smoking, then suddenly this person came outside after seeing him smoke and starting shouting in marathi. We asked him to speak in Hindi and he said no. -

March 14, 2025 at 12:16 pmThings to consider;Fire Safety: Improper disposal of cigarette butts can be hazardous.
Rules & Regulations: Many buildings have restrictions on balcony smoking.
While smoking on your private balcony in Mumbai is generally allowed under national law, it’s crucial to be considerate of neighbors and adhere to any specific rules set by your housing society to maintain a harmonious living environment.
The police visit is tricky. Maybe best to consult a lawyer.

March 14, 2025 at 1:00 pm>my husband who visits my house once in a weekI’m betting people are gossiping about this and have problems with this. They might be thinking you aren’t actually married since he visits so infrequently and doesn’t live with you. And so are calling the police on you out of “moral superiority”.

March 14, 2025 at 2:29 pmAm pretty sure you are well within your rights and nobody can stop you from smoking in your own balcony. How the hell do police have time for such nonsense to show up at 10pm? If I were in your place Iโd lawyer go and let the lawyer five both the cops and the neighbours an earful and tell them to come to court if they want.-

March 14, 2025 at 5:17 pmActually the police didn’t tell us why they had come.
They said they received a complaint so my husband needs to go to the police station the following morning to talk.

OP
April 6, 2025 at 8:35 pmLol, that’s so funny actually!
Bro, my guy needs to work and I also have to work, unfortunately, in different cities.
And… if you see someone smoke every day, then it makes sense to get angry. But that doesn’t happen… One day they see him smoke and he come out of the house to shout. And why should it be a concern that he visits only once a week?

March 15, 2025 at 4:26 amTell them to restrict their kid from going to balcony, you can smoke in your own space anytime, they think restricting their kid from seeing someone smoking will keep him pure ,this will further raise the bar for curiosity that why did mummy papa call police on those uncle in the balcony for just asking about what he was doing ,their child will be more curious slowly on what he was doing he will then stop trusting his parents and confide to his friends those friends will introduce him to tobacco and a ton of other shit and then his parents will go crazy. -

March 15, 2025 at 4:34 pmThere is absolutely no law stopping you from smoking in your own house , you should have asked the person for his id and his station , if youโre still freaked out about this go to your local police station and inquire and narrate the incident and if you have cctv surveillance in the building keep a copy of the incident because you never know that person could be an imposter -

March 18, 2025 at 8:28 amI don’t agree with that statement. There should be no ‘although’ or other conditions here imo. These are excuses used by people to not assimilate and later look down on the locals.>it is better to understand the other person if ur ur having an argument/misunderstanding.
The exact same logic I would use for OP. I don’t see why the locals have to bend over backwards. It is very essential for communication and cultural integration.
