        Hey everyone,
I live in the Army Welfare Housing Organisation (AWHO) Society. I’m not an army personโ€”I’m just a tenant living in one of the houses.

When I moved in, the maintenance charge was around โ‚น2,015. This financial year, it’s jumped to about โ‚น2,650. Naturally, I asked about the reason for the increase in the society’s WhatsApp group.

Instead of giving an explanation, the Management Committee told me to visit their office in person and said they wonโ€™t discuss such matters on WhatsApp. I then asked for a specific time to meet and even requested help preparing an Excel file to understand the breakdown. But again, they refused and said they canโ€™t share the reason with us and we have to pay without asking reason for it!

Is the Management Committee legally allowed to withhold such information from residents or tenants who are directly paying these charges?

As someone living here and contributing to the maintenance fees, do I not have the right to know the reason for the increase?

Shouldn’t there be transparency and written communication regarding any revision in charges?

Any legal or practical insights would be appreciated
