Recently, one of my relatives have gone through cataract surgery in a govt hospital.

There was lens, treatment and medicine cost which was under 15K.

They have Arogya Sanjeevani Policy, Royal Sundaram General Insurance covering Cataract and not in waiting period.

Upon contacting the Royal Sundaram helpline, they asked to courier all the original medical documents, Aadhaar, PAN, blank cancelled cheque, some doc signed by doctor and so many of different documents which were not even provided by the hospital.

The process itself looked very cumbersome, when asked them why are they needing the original treatment documents and how will we visit doctor if they will have the original treatment documents with them,

the call centre guy had the audacity to say that “paise bhi to usi baat ke de rhe hain” (they are giving money in return for keeping original documents), however we will need to email them with the reason, if we want to get our original documents back.

They also told that it’s not required to inform them about the surgery if we don’t want to pursue claim.

Why have they made the reimbursement process this tedious?

What are the course of action for us?

Original bills are required but original medical documents like discharge summary, prescription are not required as patients need them. Try sending colour xerox copy and see how it goes

Original bills are required for the insurer to process your bills.

Keep a scanned copy of those prescriptions and bills with you and send them originals.
