Job for money scam. Please advice

I was laid off last year and was hopeless for a couple of months. My parent asked me to meet one of their old HR colleague who would help me find a job.

I met him and he just discussed and told me finding a job for my industry is something new for him but will try his best. After that no more contact from him.

Recently my parent told me they had sent him 10k as advance back when I had to meet him and now he is not returning it. He just gives random reasons and postpones.

We are not that affluent and 10k is a lot of money, is there any way to recover this.

I have the UPI payment receipt.
