Land encroachment by road authority for a flyover.

A flyover is being built in front of my house because there’s a railway gate nearby. So people from the panchayat had come and they said that they will take down our wall and rebuild it a little bit away from the road because they’re expanding the road width. All this without any compensation. Is it legal or can we ask them for compensation?
