April 2, 2025 at 5:02 amHey everyone, I’m facing a bit of a dilemma and could really use some guidance. Recently, I got into a dispute with my landlord regarding my rental agreement. He’s insisting on new terms that weren’t mentioned when I initially moved in, and now I’m worried about the legal implications. Have any of you gone through something similar or know what steps I can take to protect my rights?I’d appreciate any advice—especially regarding how to handle disagreements over rental terms, potential notices, or any relevant sections of Indian tenancy laws. Thanks in advance for sharing your insights!

April 2, 2025 at 6:10 amMaintenance is always paid by the owner. If you pay maintenance and live for longer duration. You will have the right to own the house. Inform this to the owner.-

April 2, 2025 at 10:03 amIn apartments regular maintenance (watchman, common area electricity) is usually paid by tenants. Any large maintenance that is adhoc like building renovation is paid by the owner. In any case paying maintenance and living for longer duration does not give any right to tenant to own the property.

April 2, 2025 at 10:03 amWas it specified in rental agreement that maintenance will be paid by landlord? If it was just verbal, it is difficult to enforce it-

April 2, 2025 at 10:11 amIf it was verbal it could be a misunderstanding. I assume it is an apartment. Usually rental agreements have a clause that owner will pay all municipal taxes and tenant will pay their electricity meter charges & regular maintenance charges to society.Infomally check with other tenants if they are paying maintenance.
