VAbout two years ago, my brother and his four friends went out, and they got into a conflict with another group. During the fight, one of my brother’s friends stabbed someone with a broken beer bottle. That person later filed an attempted murder case against three of them, but not my brother or his close friend.
At the time, the families of those three guys pressured my parents and my brother’s close friend’s family not to mention their names to the police. Our parents even ended up paying around 1 lakh each. My brother never gave his Aadhaar card to the police, and he never got a call from them either. Eventually, those three guys were arrested and spent 15 to 30 days in jail.
Now, they’re reaching out, saying we need to come for a compromise. When the case first started, my parents signed some papers agreeing to show up if needed. What should we do now? Do they have any legal power over my brother? Do we even need to respond to them?

NNLA, If your brother is not mentioned in chargesheet, which I am guessing he is not, since he was not arrested or interrogated, they are not part of this case. You have nothing to do with this matter. Those three guys can kick rocks. They can’t do anything about you, if you do not co-operate with them. Not sure what your parents signed, those paper mean nothing, you can always claim duress. Do not communicate directly with them, and in no circumstance accept your brother was part of it, people can record things etc. So avoid all form of communication.
