January 25, 2025 at 11:53 amRecently, I came across someone on Telegram in a random group offering a service related to Amazon Pay balance refunds. He claimed that if I purchased a Google Play e-gift card, he would contact Amazon support and get me a refund for the gift card. Afterward, I could redeem the card and still retain the refunded balance.I know it was naive to trust someone like that, but I went ahead anyway. I bought an Amazon Pay e-gift card worth ₹7,000 and gave him my Amazon account login so he could proceed with the refund process. Shortly after, I realized I had been logged out of my account, which alarmed me. To prevent him from misusing the card, I redeemed the balance on my mother’s Amazon account.
Even after this, he somehow managed to convince me to buy another gift card using the amount I redeemed on my mother’s amazon pay balance using the redeemed card, this time a Google Play card worth ₹5,000, promising he could refund this amount directly to my bank account. He asked for my mother’s Amazon account login details this time, and to make himself appear trustworthy, he even put me on a conference call while contacting Amazon support.
However, as soon as I provided the login details, I was logged out again. By the time I regained access, he had ended the call, deleted all our Telegram chats, and blocked me.
When I checked my mother’s Amazon account, I discovered that the remaining ₹2,000 balance had been used to purchase something from Blinkit. He also sent the Google Play gift card code to his email and redeemed it for himself.
Now, the only evidence I have is his phone number, as he deleted all chat history on Telegram.
I had saved that money to buy something special for my mother, and this experience has left me shattered and incredibly frustrated.
What legal steps can I take to at least have a chance of recovering my money?
