April 20, 2025 at 11:59 amFirst thing first I’m just here for advice I will not take any action until I find issue.
I’m F19I will try to keep short.
(And most importantly I’m not disrespecting any profession.
I recently had pain in my breast which was swollen and veins came out. (Haven’t got report so I’m not sure what is this) I consulted a lady doctor. She checked. Asked for Xray & CT Scan (or MRI I don’t know name). But this machine operator was male. He asked me to stand in front of the machine. He asked to to raise arm and he pulled down my bra making it out, grabbed He took few pictures using that machine it happend for few mins. I couldn’t say or do anything I was so scared and numb.Anyways.
I want to know is it normal or am I overthinking.
I told my mother and doctor they were ok. But it’s not getting out of my head.(I have tried best to keep out details)

April 20, 2025 at 4:51 pmI dont think its about removing, its probably about the intention.
Majority of the doctors for such private issues in india are males. We go to such doctors because we are troubled about our private affairs. We cannot ask our family as they are not knowledgable about breast cancer, etc. When we stand infront of such doctors we feel do or die situation, either we open up about our issue or our problem may not get looked into.
Now as patients you and we have to look whether the doctors is laughing/having fun when looking at our problem or is he mocking us or is he having any ill intentions. The few I visited strangely were always down to earth serious.
So I suggest that you try to remember whether he had any ill intentions or go and talk to the his supervising doctor to get cleared out about your doubts.
I am not trying to create fear but you never know, last week in a big hospital in gurgaon, medanta hospital, a lab technician tried to take advantage of a poor woman on ventilator, very sick person indeed, may he rot in hell.

April 20, 2025 at 12:21 pmHe could’ve just asked you to do that yourself instead of removing your clothes himself +they should’ve provided a female operator. You should’ve confronted him or asked him to not touch your clothes that time and should’ve demanded for a female staff….I don’t think that you can make a legal case out of it since what he did was in good faith (for your betterment) and he can claim that it was necessary for the medical process

April 20, 2025 at 1:32 pmHeyy , I’m a medical resident here . The investigation they probably did was a mammograph (A special type of xray for breasts) , where the mammary organs are pressed against a film to get different cross sectional images inside to check for any problems . Even my mom has it annually after 40 years , and she also states it as pretty uncomfortable . But the fact abt how the male operator took it , the way he took it (As you mentioned) , without any female operator or even an attendant nearby , is not acceptable . It could be a issue bcuz of the patient load , they may tend to rush it sometimes or this may be gross error on his side , bcuz he should have given you a safe place to undress and then ask proper consent before proceeding . But its questionable whether to sue or not , bcuz it may not go your way bcuz they’ll state that they did the test for your own good .-

April 20, 2025 at 3:35 pmWould they do a mammography for a 19 year girl? Won’t the breast tissue be too dense? But based on the information given it does seem to be a mammograph.

but anyways regardless, this is extremely inappropriate and a violation.1) you should be directed to open your clothes in a different changing room
2) the operator should not have touched you AT ALL
3) a female attendant should have been present there.raise a complaint with the management of the hospital you had this test done in. i wish you well

Whatever you say makes it out as clear as day that doctors are NOT allowed to do that with any gender except for same eg: male to male and female to female and only SOME exceptions being when it’s needed or only certain doctor is there but then too they’re supposed to ask for YOUR PERMISSION so pls if possible take this ahead. -

April 20, 2025 at 2:22 pmI’m a doctor. The protocol is to ask the patient to undress themselves and place your breasts on the machine for a mammogram. Most hospitals ( esp the ones with high caseload) don’t have a separate female technician for female patients. The male technician gives instructions and steps into the processing room. I’m guessing there were some miscommunication from both ends. But obviously, it is not protocol to undress themselves patient by a doctor/ any health personnel, unless the patient is in a condition where they cannot do it themselves, in that case a female chaperone presence in mandatory. -

April 20, 2025 at 3:59 pmHey, I just want to say you’re not overthinking this at all. It’s completely okay to feel the way you do. Even though breast imaging can be a bit awkward and uncomfortable, there are proper ways to handle it — like explaining what’s going to happen, making sure you’re comfortable, and ideally having a female staff member or attendant there, especially when a male technician is involved. The way you described it doesn’t sound professional at all, and it’s really upsetting that you had to go through that. I understand why it’s stuck in your head. Even if others didn’t react the same way, your feelings are valid.
I agree that you should flag it, maybe write a Google review or raise it with the centre. If more people speak up, it can stop things like this from happening again. You’re really brave for sharing this — and it might actually help someone else in the future.

April 20, 2025 at 4:11 pmIn this specific case, I have to point out a few things not specifically in your case but I’m general first. (While I do this please bear in mind I’m not aware of the medical details of your case and do not consider this medical option or advice, consult your doctor for the same.) For starters, in cases of breast cancer or rather suspected breast cancer one of the tests involved or rather recommend is for doctors to feel the breasts by touch in order to identify lumps or any masses. If done by a doctor this is normal and acceptable(bear in mind you always have the option of seeking a female doctor). Now, the next part, generally when doctors suspect certain things, or to verify or confirm certain things, they ask for various scans(pet scan, ct scan, mamogram for this case in particular are the advanced scans and xray is a basic scan). Depending on what the doctor has instructed(by notes) or asked for, you may need to hold a certain posture for the scan.
Now in an ideal world, the scans would always be conducted by a female technician an an profoundly professional setup thats very private. Unfortunately, the real world circumstances are very different for multiple reasons, economics being the biggest reason, unavailability of female staff/technicians in smaller towns, lack of specialized facelities etc are other reasons(again i don’t have to specifics of your case.). Due to this, a lot of women(to put in in a subtle way) end up in awkward situations but at this point in time it’s ‘considered’ normal and not a lot you can do about it.
Now, coming to your situation, ideally if it was a option you could have ask for a female technician or expressed discomfort at the point when you had to remove your clothes. Given this did not happen it could be either of the two things where the guy found the opportunity and used it or the guy was just doing his job. I might have sound harsh in saying what I just said and believe me I can understand your situation(based on the available details) and am sympathetic to the same. But exploring legal routes on this is a no go as the guy will argue that he was doing his job and not a lot can be done unless you can articulate or prove otherwise.
Again I can’t say that enough that don’t consider any of the above as medical advice, consul the doctor for the same. I do wish you good health.

April 21, 2025 at 12:03 amIt was a mammogram.Usually female technicians are there for it, but if not available at a centre then a woman chaperone is always present.
Your experience is quite unusual and the place needs to know of the highly unprofessional behaviour of this person.
Inform the doctor in charge of your case or the radiologist doctor at the imaging centre.
It’s not unusual for male technicians in India to be creepy because of their poor training.

Ladies please 🙏🏻 requesting you to not get scared or shocked with such requests and go along with it without confirming with managers of such said staffs first. My gf has given x rays with medical gown on and ladies staff present. You can always call back and ask them. If they say no it is not required, go to police station and file an FIR.
