May 7, 2025 at 8:29 amHello All,I was hired as a software engineer in a Gurgaon based startup with 1 monthβs notice period. It has been specifically mentioned my my offer letter. However, a couple of months ago, they have sent out a mail org wide stating that they are changing the notice period policy and that it would now be 2 months.
Now, I have already intimated my future employer that my notice period is 1 month, because that mail got missed from my end. Can these guys do that? What can I do if they insist me on serving 2 months? Please help. I would be glad if someone professional can help me here.

May 7, 2025 at 8:39 amLegally yes the company can make changes to company wide policy because normally they put in clause in joining letter “that company reserves the right to revise terms etc
specially private companies don’t need to think much about this.
I will suggest talking to your manager / new company and try explaining your situation to both sides I hope one of them will agree. -

May 7, 2025 at 11:10 amLawyer here.– Companies can change the Notice Period.
– You can attempt to negotiate with the Company to lower it to 1 month, or negotiate with new Company to delay it by 1 month, or Pay the remaining Notice Period amount and join the Company.
