February 4, 2025 at 4:17 pmHello redditors, I’m here to ask for your advice, recently we went through our property papers so we could build a house, now this land when bought was normal land that can be used for commercial or personal construction ad well(idk what thw term is) but in 2021 without any notice, it was maarked as forest land, reserved to be specific, when we went there, people already had built their houses and there is even a scrap yard beside our property and a petrol pump in 300m radius. Now since these were built illegally or before the announcement, we are now left helpless, we bought it 13 years ago with the hopes of building our house one day and now it is all taken away by the government. What can i do in such case? We really needed it because we don’t have our own house and we live rented. That was our last hope.
Is there any way or anything i can do?
Land is in Goa, help me please -

Local municipality reserved for playground.
or Just bribe your way for construction permit and build ground floor on land. They don’t demolish houses once you built it.

February 4, 2025 at 7:13 pmPretty shameless and stupid to suggest bribery as a solution. Tomorrow when the authorities change and their palm itches theyl come asking for more.I talk from second hand experience of a close relative. Sure they wont demolish the house, but they might revoke OC / cut water supply/ sewage etc.
Blunders happen in life, its extremely unwise to cover it with another one.

February 4, 2025 at 7:39 pmNothing happens because local MLA and MP side with people because of vote bank and it’s not one house who is victim, it’s entire locality. MLA /MPs have nothing to gain by siding with municipality here. Because encroachment of public property is regular phenomenon, usually it’s done by powerful builders.Also, municipality encroaches private vacant land all the time. There are some guidelines to have public Park, playground, library in every locality otherwise permission is not given for converting farm land into plotting. Whenever there is housing society if municipality doesn’t have its own space, they find area and claim at as government land reserved for playground etc. People get stay order.
I have personal experience as I have talked with 3-4 lawyers.

February 4, 2025 at 5:20 pmYou can sue the forest department and ask for compensation but if your plot is still vacant get a plan sanctioned by dtcp and just go ahead and build your structure there Nobody will raze your structure alone normally nothing is done by governments there are plethora of cases in national capital region where structures worth several hundred crores are not being touched build on forest land even after supreme court orders-

February 5, 2025 at 2:51 amVacant property in Goa is always a nightmare. They also try to classify everything as agricultural land, you’ll even find completely rocky lands marked as agricultural. My grandpa’s plot where he had a store and never once farmed in his life is agricultural. -

February 5, 2025 at 2:16 pmThere are many cases like this where the notification by government declaring private land as forest etc. are being challenged and heard by the Collector. You will have to get in touch with a lawyer who practices in these types of matters to ensure that you are well represented. Just an FYI, not every one does these matters. -
