UNeed some advice on what to do next.
There was a local issue in our area regarding pipeline and water supply, and like many others, my mother had posted a message raising concern about it. Later, that message was allegedly misused and forwarded from a labourer’s phone to a BJP member in a way that appears intended to defame her and create trouble for her.
What makes it more suspicious is that many people were posting about the same issue, but only my mother’s message was selectively picked and sent in this manner. We also have the labourer’s number. When asked about it, he denied sending any such message and said that his child was using the phone at the time. That explanation has only made the situation more suspicious, because the message still appears to have gone from that phone.
We have screenshots and related details saved. We tried filing a complaint online, but the cyber crime portal is not working properly for us. At this point, what should be the next step? Should we go directly to the cyber cell, file a written police complaint, send an email complaint, or speak to a lawyer first?
We want to handle this properly and legally, so any practical advice would help.
