Hello all, I am an Indian citizen currently living in the United States. I would like to change my name- rearranging my first and middle names. Can someone guide me on the procedure for this ?

But before changing/rearranging your name in the passport, you’ll have to make sure that the names in all the documents pertaining to your identity proof has to be changed…

IF YOU INTEND TO CHANGE IT IN INDIA

You’ll have to prepare an affidavit indicating the rearrangement/adding/removing the name you desire along with your existing name in the documents.

Get it notarized

Publish the same in a local and a national newspaper and in the Official Gazette of India.

Once published in the Gazette and the change of name is confirmed, you may, along with all the documents above, apply for re-issuing of the passport with the passport issuing authority in India.
