May 2, 2025 at 7:06 ami (M) , My ex (F) is threatening to falsely accuse me of having intimate videos and says she’ll file a police complaint to ruin my reputation, even though I’ve never made or had such videos. What steps should I take to protect myself legally?” -

May 2, 2025 at 7:22 amWe broke up because she was cheating on me with another guy. I saw texts and messages on her phone, so I ended the relationship. Now she’s blaming me and threatening to falsely accuse me of having intimate videos and filing a police complaint.”-

May 2, 2025 at 8:40 amShe can’t file any suit against you just for having intimate photos or videos of her, as long as they were shared with her consent during the relationship and you do not share them with anyone else. However, do not attempt to share or threaten to share such content with anyone doing so would be a serious offense under the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the BNS 2023, and could result in criminal charges. On the other hand, if you do not have any such photos or videos and she still files a suit, she won’t be able to take legal action against you on that ground alone , try to collect and preserve any kind of evidence related to her such as conversations or threatening messages sent by her as it can help you if any legal issue arises in the future.-

May 2, 2025 at 8:47 amThank you so much! Yes, I don’t have any pictures or videos, and I’ve already taken screenshots of our chats as proof. Is there anything else I should do to prepare? Is there any kind of preventive complaint or legal step I can take in advance?

May 2, 2025 at 8:39 amI’m not scared because I’ve done something wrong — I’m scared because even false charges can cause huge trouble. What if my parents find out? What if the police authorities cause me trouble? Even if I’m innocent, it can ruin my reputation and peace of mind-

May 2, 2025 at 9:25 amI don’t want my name to be tainted, so do you think I should file a complaint against her for harassment as a way to protect myself, just in case she tries anything?-

May 2, 2025 at 9:05 amIf you are sure there is nothing, file a case before her for harassment.-

May 2, 2025 at 9:23 amShe wants to get back together, and she said she might go to the police if I don’t, but she only mentioned it once and hasn’t brought it up again. Do you think I should still file an FIR for harassment now? I honestly just don’t want to get into any legal trouble because of her.-
