April 6, 2025 at 5:18 amHi everyone,
I am seeking legal advice regarding a serious issue with Airtel. While I was overseas, I was unable to receive SMS on my Airtel number, including OTPs for banking and government services. I contacted Airtel support through multiple channels (chat, calls, social media), and they advised me to turn on mobile data and disable Wi-Fi to troubleshoot. I did exactly that, and if you check the data usage history, it matches the chat datesโproving I did not use the data for personal reasons but only as instructed.Despite this, Airtel charged me heavy international roaming fees. First, they activated a โน649/day pack without my consent. Later, they applied a โน3,999 30-day IR pack but still added extra charges on top of it. They also deducted โน1,000 from my security deposit without notice or explanation.
To make matters worse, even though I raised a formal complaint through [https://pgportal.gov.in](https://pgportal.gov.in), it was closed without any real investigation or resolution. Eventually, Airtel disconnected my number permanently on March 13, 2025, without giving me any prior notice. This has severely impacted my access to banking and essential services, especially while I am still overseas.
I have all chat logs, screenshots, and billing records to prove the timeline and context. What legal options do I have? Is filing a case in consumer court the right way to go?
Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.
**TLDR:** Airtel made me turn on data overseas to fix SMS issues, then charged high roaming fees for it, applied roaming packs without my consent, deducted from my deposit, ignored my PGPortal complaint, and then disconnected my number without notice. Looking for legal advice on next steps in India.
