My brother is currently working in ICICI bank from last 3-4 years and his salary is 35k-40k.
Recently he got a job offer from Kotak for a higher position and his salary would be around 55k-65k.

Thing is ICICI bank doesn’t give out bonuses to its employees but give some monetary reward every year in April(I dunno what that reward is called). My brother said he is supposed to Receive 150000rs in April.

Now if he gives his resignation to ICICI he will not receive that 150000 in April. But if he wouldn’t give his resignation to ICICI, he will lose his new job in Kotak.

        What should he do?

He can do two things:- wait for 2 months, get his bonus which he deserve . If his present job is good he can ask for a raise and show his kotak offer and maybe get a better raise here .

          Or

If ICICI workplace is toxic , he can resign . Also he can make bonus in like eight month in kotak bank.

So he has to take a call. Whatever he does , don’t burn the bridges as old colleague can be helpful later in carrer

Switching is better, in the long term, he would get more than that. Moreover his search for a partner to marry would be easier with a higher salary

We should never fall for one time bonuses. Even if it’s regular and frequent, it’s not guaranteed. And it’s justified that women won’t think of him as a high earner with those bonuses which can be stopped at any time

Incentives are planned such that it’s a pain to walk away from.

When you switch jobs you should target a net increase of 20% + compared to your annual take home currently. Switching for a lesser hike usually doesn’t make sense unless you have to switch at any cost due to other reasons.

A better position and compensation should be given weight age over a bonus.

Mom had cancer 1.5 years ago. And we completed all the chemoherapy last October. But turns out in January, we got to know that the cancer is back and that too in another area. So now we need to give 8 more chemo injections. Possibly 10. And per Chemo costs around 25k plus other scanning, booster doses etc etc.

Soo money is really important for us currently
