February 22, 2025 at 4:12 amHey everyone,I need some legal advice regarding a scam that happened to my sister while traveling in India. She had booked a tour package in advance, but when she landed, a different operator (not the one she booked with) showed up. This new operator:
1. Demanded the remaining payment upfront before starting the tour.
2. Was rude and unprofessional throughout the interaction.
3. After receiving full payment, he changed the itinerary to one used by his company, which:a. Was shorter than the original.
b. Had fewer tourist spots and poorer hotels than promised.
c. Was cheaper than the package she had booked, but he still took the full original amount. This seems like a clear case of fraud. My sister was already in an unfamiliar region of India and didn’t feel safe arguing too much, so she went along with it. She is currently on travelling with them.
Does she have any legal recourse here? Can she file a complaint with any Indian authority or consumer protection agency? Any guidance from legal experts or travelers who have faced similar situations would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
