April 25, 2026 at 2:06 pmHello Sir/Maam,Need some genuine legal advice on a rental deposit issue.
A few of us rented a flat on a leave & license agreement and paid a security deposit. We vacated the flat about 2 months ago. There was **no damage to the property**, and we also have photo/video proof of the condition at the time of leaving.
The agreement clearly states that any deductions (like repainting etc.) are applicable **only if there is damage**.
However, the landlord is refusing to return our deposit without giving any valid reason. Whatโs more confusing is that he has already returned the deposit to one of the occupants earlier, but is holding back the rest of our money. The reason he returned his money (uske uncle officer hain(4th roomie ke) and that owner…he told that roommate to block us and never talk to us.) bro I will donate that amount to him, nahi chahiye pese jaa, tu rakh but this attitude is what killing me….how can he give his money without telling us and hamare pese japt karke rakhe hain.
Now he has **blocked our calls/messages**, and itโs been 2 months with no resolution.
We have:
* Copy of the agreement
* Proof of deposit payment
* Proof of condition of the flat (no damage)
* Proof that partial refund was made to one occupantWeโre considering filing a police complaint, but not sure:
* Will police actually help in such cases?
* Or should we go for a legal notice/civil route directly?
* Whatโs the fastest and most practical way to recover the money?This is a significant amount for us, and itโs getting stressful.
Would really appreciate any guidance from people whoโve dealt with similar situations or have legal knowledge.
Thanks in advance ๐
