April 1, 2025 at 1:32 pmI left my rented accomodation in delhi on 20th December 2024, informed the owner on 4th December that i will vacate in January. I have all the proof of rent that i paid, along with security. He is not responding to my texts, over call he says – i will return money after ‘paint’ is done. Its been 4 months now, he is not budging. I had a heated exchange wherein he said – if you’ll tell me about rules I won’t even give back any money. Its not about the money, but why are these people not afraid of law or legal action

April 1, 2025 at 1:39 pmThat money is gone. Unless you are willing to pay a lawyer to take him to court, and fight legally , nothing will be done.
Any deposit to a landlord is free money.-

April 1, 2025 at 2:36 pmIf the amount if significant then try sending a legal notice. Fear of the case going to court usually makes people want to settle.-

OP
April 1, 2025 at 2:50 pmIts not a significant amount, but the sheer disregard for the laws/rules and dishonesty is making me go mad. But i dont think its worth the legal proceedings and investing the mental bandwidth(plus i am broke haha). Gave rent and everything on time but well life is not fair plus he is extremely arrogant.
thank you for your comment though.-

April 1, 2025 at 4:08 pmIf you are going to vacate, never pay the last couple of months of rent citing random reasons. Just let the landlord adjust from the deposit. Always worked for me in both Bangalore and Mumbai.
