January 23, 2025 at 5:57 pmI’m (28F) (originally from Mumbai) married to my partner (32M) (originally from Delhi). We live together here in the US. I sent in my passport for renewal at the Indian Consulate in New York in tatkal. I received my passport yesterday. My mother called me today that a police constable visited my home in Mumbai and asked a bunch of questions about my name, their names, my husband’s name etc. Then he asked why my permanent address wasn’t Delhi since I’m married and that’s where my husband’s permanent address is. My mom said they both live in the US, should it matter? He relented for a moment and now my Dad has been asked to visit the station tomorrow. I’m not sure what the issue is. Has anyone encountered this issue before? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.Ps:
1. My marriage is registered in the US
2. We have gotten married in India as well ( haven’t registered in India yet)
3. Do married couples in India not live in different cities for various reasons and have different addresses?
4. What should my dad expect tomorrow at the police station? How do I resolve this? -
