Passport renewal after divorce

I’m based in the US, and need to renew my passport as it is due to expire. Over the past couple of years, I got married and shortly then, divorced someone I met here in the US. Do I need to select Divorced as my marital status? Could I keep my status as Single? If I select Divorced, I assume I would have to provide marriage certificate and divorce decree, but I never updated anything after I got married, so would I even need to do that when renewing?

If you have got your wife name added in passport then submit divorce decree & get it removed
If not added
Then do not worry

Just chill

If not got divore
Renew it as it is
You can not do anything
