Passport stuck due to father’s name mismatch; what worked for you?

I’m applying for a passport and ran into an issue with my father’s name.

In my school marksheet, let’s say it’s written as “M.D Sharma”, but in Aadhaar and other documents, it’s “Mahendra Sharma”.

At the Passport Seva Kendra, they told me to publish a newspaper ad stating that both names belong to the same person, but I also heard it depends on the desk person at that time.

Has anyone dealt with something similar?

Did the newspaper ad + affidavit work, or were you forced to correct the marksheet?

I am in touch with the school administration, but they are moving too slowly. It’s already been more than 6 months, and there’s been no update.
