May 9, 2026 at 12:05 pmI’m from Kerala, India, and I’m planning to convert my personal car into a commercial taxi and attach it to Uber/Ola. Instead of driving myself, I want to rent the car to other drivers on a monthly/weekly basis.I want to understand the legal procedures involved before doing this. Specifically:
1. How do I legally convert a private car into a commercial taxi?
2. What permits, insurance, registrations, or agreements are required?
3. Should I create a rental agreement or driver contract?
4. What clauses should I include to protect myself legally?
5. If the driver uses the vehicle for illegal activities (crime, smuggling, drugs, etc.), how can I protect myself from liability?
6. Is GPS tracking or police verification of drivers recommended?
7. Should I register a business/entity before renting vehicles?
8. Any practical advice from people already doing this business?I want to do this properly and avoid future legal or police complications. Any advice from lawyers, taxi owners, or fleet operators would be really helpful.
