No, best they can do is take a statement, which is quashed in court if you tell you gave it under pressure, and if they give you a beating you can get a medical and the court will take action against them,

people can be questioned given that there is a reasonable doubt exist. And whatever the police do, in courts that will not stand. So they can only enquire because no one knows whether a certain person is involved or innocent
