        Hi everyone,

I’m in a frustrating situation and need some advice.

On Feb 1, 2025, my scooter was stolen from my friend’s place. After multiple requests, the police finally registered an FIR the next day. But honestly, they didn’t even bother searching for it because I’m just a regular middle-class guy without VIP status or political connections.

Fast forward, I found my own stolen scooter about 60 km away from where it was taken. I immediately went to the location, confirmed it was mine, and called 112 to inform the local police. They took the scooter and parked it at the police station.

Now, it’s been a week, and the police are refusing to return my scooter. They keep giving me excuses like “we’re busy” or “you’re not the only case.” I feel like they are deliberately delaying it.

What can I do to get my vehicle back ASAP? Who should I complain to? Any legal steps I can take?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
        Thanks in advance!

NAL. just record video of your scooty with numberplate visible and go to SP office with FIR and RC and other documents it will get sorted once they get a call from SP.

They are expecting you to grease their overworked and tired palms

Edit: the last time something like this happened to a person I knew the scooter had ‘aged’ with parts replaced with old ones etc. Try to get it back ASAP

                          Advocate here,

Hire an advocate and file a property return application under Section 503 of the BNSS in the appropriate court.

                              >What can I do to get my vehicle back ASAP

Seeking possession of a vehicle now recovered is a commonly desired notion of owners, and is pretty easy for advocates. Process is called “Release of case property” a.k.a. superdaari. This requires maximum 2 hearings, provided IO cooperates and does his job. Even if not, hearings get extended by at best 1-2 further.

                                      Your scooter was actually stolen

thieves when steal vehicles, they park it someone at random location for few days and then dismantle it/resell it.

I hope you take the right way instead of the easy way.

Right way being hiring an advocate and letting him handle everything, you just have to show up once or twice. Property release application process is usually easy. Shouldn’t take more than 2-3 weeks to get your scooter.

Easy way being pay up 2k to one of the lower hawaldars at the chowki, get it done within a week

The same thing happened to me once, but we found our scooter instead of the police.
Me and my friend were having dinner at a local Chinese restaurant, we came out and the scooter was gone.
We contacted the cops, they were abusive and started to bribe and said I know where your bike is, pay me 35k and l’ll bring that to you.
Somehow we found our bike, a drunk person mistakenly took our bike instead of his, surprisingly the keys worked for each other.

The havaldar wanted to charge money from us, but we blocked their no and went home and slept.
I hate cops till date due to this.

Tell us OP what happens next in your case.

Nal but had a similar experience, actually worse. Initially when my scooter was stolen police didn’t file formal FIR but informal complaint asking to wait for few days. When it was recovered after few days, they brought the scooter in and forced me to file an FIR then despite my pleas. I had to go through the formal processes, hire a lawyer, file an application in court etc while my vehicle was lying impounded at the police station. Took around 3 months and a few court visits before getting back my vehicle

Go to the Area incharge IPS officer and meet him and tell this story as is…then see the things happening.
