January 28, 2025 at 10:04 amNote: This query is not related to me, I am asking on behalf of someone else. The location is Uttar Pradesh (Ghaziabad).I have a few questions regarding property ownership:
1. If a son and mother are joint owners of a property, and the son suddenly passes away, who becomes the owner of the property? The son is survived by a wife; will the property now be jointly owned by both the mother and the daughter-in-law?2. When the property was registered, both the son and the mother were listed as joint owners. However, it was mentioned that the registry included a discount due to the womanโs ownership. Does this imply that the registry is in the motherโs name, and that the property will be transferred solely to her?
3. If the property is transferred to the motherโs name, does the daughter-in-law have any rights to it?
4. If the mother ultimately receives the property, can she transfer it as a gift to her daughter in order to prevent the daughter-in-law from acquiring any rights to it?
Looking forward to any insights!
