CBackground: I have an apartment in Mumbai bought in 2012. There is an issue with some stamp duty unpaid since before we bought the house. We are the fourth owners. Due to some ongoing society work we found out that the potential stamp duty and fine we would have to pay is upwards of 4Lakhs. The folks at the govt office are all money hungry folks and are extremely rude.
Issue: To sort this issue and reduce the dues liable to be paid by us, I need to provide some govt proof from the 1980’s or as old as possible that this house was occupied by the different owners previously (the agreement docs and share certificate aren’t enough as per them lol). I will have to give some proof such as an electricity bill with their name, property tax bill, some doc with their name and this address. Now its going to be impossible to track the owners, but I’m trying.
Please advise me on what can be done. I spoke to a lawyer and they are asking for 80k to get this issue sorted. Finances are tight so this is not a feasible option.
Please please help me out on this. How can I get some proof of their ownership on a Govt Document?
