RHi, I recently had a humiliating experience at PVR INOX in Mumbai.
About 20 minutes into the movie, their staff approached and said “you are not allowed to sit here” without even checking my booking.
I refused to show the ticket immediately and asked them to call the duty manager, as I had a valid recliner seat booking.This caused public embarrassment and disturbed my show experience.
I immediately wrote a feedback mail to PVR INOX, and after 5 days, their officials called and offered a free movie ticket + complimentary food & beverage.
However, I feel this is not sufficient for the mental harassment and public humiliation I faced.
I have full proof (recordings and booking confirmation) and I am considering filing a Consumer Forum case.How much compensation can I reasonably demand? Is ₹20,000–₹30,000 justified?
Should I first send a legal notice or directly file a consumer complaint?Thanks in advance for your advice!

MYou showing the ticket to the staff would have made them realize their mistake and they would have apologized to you then and there publicly.
Even if they didn’t apologize, you showing your ticket would have humbled them as people were watching. Either ways, you were on the winning side.
Everyone makes mistakes, could be rude staff, could be a bad day, we never know. -

WYes please go for it. Your case would be an example for everyone who wants to file a case for every frivolous issue and imagines they demand compensation while there are so many genuine cases pending.
Do factor in the time, cost and effort required to pursue this. Don’t be greedy.
Ask for 2 recliner tickets and some f&b coupons, take the win and go enjoy another movie.

CYou should have shown them the ticket!
It happened with me (before I boycotted bollywood movies). I was watching 1921 in the theatre!
It was a morning show and there were only 10 ppl in the show (lol)
I had purchased the recliner seat and the person legit came and asked to see my ticket mid-movie. Guess he could not believe I purchased the recliner ticket for such a sh*t movie! Lol 😂 -

FYou do realise that the public embarrassment and time could have been saved by just showing the ticket? It was most likely a mistake on the part of the staff, but it didn’t need to escalate. It would have taken all of 30 seconds. I’m sure your discussions wasted more of your time, and drew the unwanted public attention.

Slol , You could literally have asked them Why and you could have shown them your ticket
Don’t behave like an entitled Karen . They probably saw someone on the CCTV switching seats from regular to recliner and thought it was you .

AIt is a humiliating experience and for people who have social anxiety this can be devastating.
You are right in moving the consumer forum.
The theatre folks could have checked their booking to see if your seat was booked in their system.
You should go ahead, so they’ll stop being elitist to other people.
You file for 50k or so, and let the court decide what they want to grant you. -
SShould have humiliated harder for an entitled cunt! Lot of people misuse the seats. It’s thier job to check! I imagine how this would have played out,They asked you to show the tickets ,you refused,they asked again sternly. You became aggressive,They probably shouted at you. Such entitled people should stay at homes and watch movies. You are equally responsible to why this nation is not growing. Similar to the people who drive on the wrong side. PVR was grateful to offer such rewards yet you want more. I mean man,grow up. Have some balls.

TConsumer court can only give compensation in case you were not allowed and either kicked out for service you paid,
In your scenario you have file deformation suit with court for harressment and humiliation caused by them.
All this is time consuming, you will spend around 30 – 40k spending time and going ro court waiting whole day for hearing. You ask for 20 lakhs compensation they will give 50k. And their lawyer will cause more harressment in court, legal in india is very week and it takes many years to conclude
Upto you to decide.

OSeriously OP? The only inconvenience you faced was the usher simply asking you to vacate the seat, a request that you responded to by refusing to show your ticket and demanding to see the manager instead.
For this minor inconvenience you think you’re entitled to a 20-30k settlement.
And btw I am absolutely sure that despite all appeals for reason, you are going to file a case for your settlement offer. Guess who will foot the bill for any reparation paid to you: will it be paid by PVR on their own or by punishing that usher who was simply doing his job. But of course that means nothing to you. Go ahead and file your case.
No wonder the courts have so many pending cases.

DYou have too much time and like others said, are a Karen. Why didn’t you just show the ticket ? You aggravated by asking to see the duty manager…for what? to show your ticket? And you want the courts to waste their time to restore your lost honor in front of unknown people who care a rats sass for you or your ticket? You could have deescalated and handled it better, instead ruined the show for yourself, and prolly a few others around you. Next time, think before you stand your ground. Sometimes, it just ain’t worth it…irrespective of how high you think of yourself. This is the other side of ‘main kaun hun maloom’. May you ground yourself and mature in life. Good luck!
