May 3, 2026 at 7:00 amHi everyone, I need some general legal guidance.I’m currently a trainee in a small professional office. Recently, a former employee left after a dispute with the employer regarding workload and compensation. There is now some kind of legal issue going on between them.
A few days ago, that former employee called me and during the conversation, I later realized he was recording the call. He asked general questions about work conditions, and I responded casually, thinking it was just a normal conversation not anything formal.
Later, he mentioned that he recorded the call and said he might use it if needed in his case. He also suggested that if I ever say something different formally, he could use that recording.
I’m not directly involved in their dispute and I don’t want to be part of any legal matter. I’m just a trainee and don’t have full knowledge of employment terms or decisions.
My concerns:
* Can such a recorded casual conversation be used against me legally?
* Can I be forced to become a witness in such a case?
* If I’m ever asked to testify, can I clarify that my statements were informal and not based on full knowledge?
* Is there anything I should do right now to protect myself?I’m feeling quite stressed about this situation, so any general guidance would really help. Thanks in advance.
