Refund for rescheduled flight

Hello everyone,

I booked a flight through AIR india on 7jan which i rescheduled on 22jan due to some emergency. For which i paid extra ₹8k.
Now rescheduled flight got cancelled .
I wanted refund to which they are saying that they will only refund the original amount and not the extra ₹8k charges .
Can you please guide me ?
I want to know my rights !
If anyone can provide me link to these guidelines as i googled and didn’t find anything regarding this .
Is there any legal action that i can take ?

Email airline for refund, record denial of refund and/or conversation with airline customer care.
File a complaint with DGCA.
Conversely, if booked via credit card, request chargeback.
