        Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some legal guidance regarding a gold purchase, and I’d really appreciate input from lawyers or anyone experienced with consumer law.

In September 2025, I paid ₹1,00,000 as an advance to a jeweller (Regal Jewellers, Bangalore) for purchasing gold jewellery. The receipt mentions:

        – “Booked Weight: 20 grams”

        – Gold rate at the time of advance

        – A clause stating the applicable gold rate will be the lower of the rate on the date of advance or the date of purchase, limited to the reserved weight

        – Validity of 365 days (so I am still within the period)

However, when I recently visited the store:

        – They told me I am eligible for only ~9.7 grams at the old (advance) rate

        – And the remaining gold (up to 20g) will be charged at the current rate

        – Initially, they were even denying 9.7g, and only after repeated questioning did they agree to that much

        This has left me confused.

        From my reading:

        – The receipt mentions a “booked weight of 20g”, which sounds like a reserved quantity

        – But another clause says that if conditions aren’t met, benefit applies only to weight equivalent to advance amount

Since I am still within the 365-day period, I’m unsure how these two clauses should be interpreted together.

Here is the receipt for reference (with terms and conditions):

Google drive link for the receipt – (Reddit is not allowing attachments)

I may be misunderstanding something, so I wanted to ask:

        – In such cases, does “booked weight” usually create a binding obligation?

        – Or is the jeweller justified in limiting the old rate benefit only to the value-equivalent weight (~9.7g)?

        – How would courts typically interpret such conflicting clauses?

        – Do I have any reasonable legal standing here, or is their position valid?

I’m not trying to jump to conclusions, just trying to understand my position correctly before taking any next steps.

Thanks a lot for your time and guidance 🙏
