February 4, 2025 at 8:32 amHi, I had a legal query regarding registration of a Christian marriage in Chennai. The thing is, the marriage occured in 2006 and while it was registered in the Church itself, it was not registered under any Government act. What can the couple do now to get their marriage registered now? They are mentioned as spouses in their passports and all, but were hoping to get the marriage formally registered. What are the steps they can take? Can this be done online, or does it have to be done in person? Thanks in advance. -

February 15, 2025 at 10:50 amIf the marriage occurred in the church, then the church issued marriage certificate is registered under the
“Indian Christian Marriage Act of 1872”
The Bishop house will attest and give the same in writing. Here in mumbai, I had to take the marriage certificate and get it attested by the goverment marriage registrar in the Home Ministry Dept of State Gov.
