April 30, 2026 at 9:37 amHi everyone,Iโm in a bit of a frustrating situation with my housing society and could really use some advice.
When I bought my flat, I wasnโt fully aware of all the society rules. I started renovation work without formally informing or taking permission from the society. This upset the current president. Once I realized this, I wrote a formal apology letter and also requested permission in writing but they never responded. Since there was no reply, I went ahead and completed the renovation.
After shifting in, I discovered a **serious common pipeline issue** affecting multiple flats in the same vertical line (like 101, 201, 301, etc.). This is clearly a structural/common issue that should be handled by the society.
I first informed the secretary, president, and some committee members verbally, but they ignored it โ because of the earlier renovation issue. It honestly feels like a personal grudge at this point.
Then I took a more formal step:
* Wrote a complaint
* Got it signed by multiple affected residents
* Submitted it officiallyEven after that, **no action has been taken**.
Now Iโm stuck dealing with an issue that affects multiple homes, but the society is refusing to act.
**What I want to know:**
* What legal options do I have in India to force the society to fix this?
* Can I escalate this to any authority (like registrar, municipal body, etc.)?
* Is there any way to hold the society accountable for negligence of common infrastructure?Would really appreciate guidance, especially from anyone who has dealt with something similar.
Thanks in advance!
