April 10, 2025 at 3:46 pmMy wife & me are currently in Istanbul, we landed yesterday. While at a cafe, we forgot our wallet on the table which was then picked up by another tourist woman. She very calmly goes through the wallet and places it in her bag. There is CCTV evidence of the entire thing. It had a significant amount of money as well as our identification, travel card and credit cards. Now we are left without anything to pay even for the cab. There is no way we can withdraw money since the card was in the wallet.
We have approached the police who said that they will try their best. What should be our next course of action?

April 10, 2025 at 3:51 pmFirst cancel the credit cards and see your travel insurance covers theft, because I don’t think so you’re going to get the purse.Do you have your Passports with you?
If not contact Indian Embassy with the video proof.

April 10, 2025 at 5:06 pmRobbed is not the correct word. Robbed means someone put a gun or knife to you and forcibly took your money. You lost your wallet. Anyway, good luck. If you have Samsung or Google wallets and cards added, you can try to use those. If you are foolish enough to use Apple, then there is nothing to say.-

April 11, 2025 at 6:52 amPlease elaborate – what’s the problem with Apple?(not an Apple user and have no idea about that ecosystem; your response may affect whether/not I become one in future)

April 11, 2025 at 7:29 amApple Pay (wallet) doesn’t work in India. Thus, if he is India and has an IPhone, he wouldn’t be able to use the wallet method to pay via credit cards that he could do with Samsung Pay. Plenty of other issues as well but that’s the one I was referring to here.

April 10, 2025 at 5:10 pmIf you would have purchased your tickets through a credit card, it is very likely that it has inbuilt travel insurance. Call up the credit card bank / visit website and get the travel insurance helpline to call.In addition, check in with the Indian embassy there, they would help you.

April 11, 2025 at 12:57 amZero situational awareness.I know we are all human and make mistakes but leaving such a valuable thing on a public table is just despicable. You should always be aware of your surroundings and belongings in public. More so in a foreign country!

April 11, 2025 at 5:34 amAll your eggs in one basket? What about the duplicate/second travel card? Normally the bank issues two. Deactivate the first and activate the second.Credit cards, contact company. They do charge but issue new ones. 4 days I think.
The rest depends on Travel insurance.
Don’t your trousers have that old fashioned thingy, chor pocket?

April 11, 2025 at 1:46 pmTry and ask the cafe owner to spread the footage in their whatsapp groups and social networks. These places have a strong network, someone might identify the tourist and then the police can help. Generally the people are helpful in Istanbul. -
