March 23, 2025 at 11:48 amI bought a **Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus in Sept 2022**. Everything was fine until **Dec 2024**, when I installed a **Samsung software update**. Immediately after the update, a **green line appeared on my screen**, and within a week, it increased to **four lines (two green, two pink)**.I went to their **service center in mid-Jan 2025**, and they filed a **service request** but told me to **call their toll-free number**. I did, and when I asked for a **free screen replacement**, they flat-out **refused**, saying:
1. **My phone was out of warranty** – like yeah, I know, but **you** pushed the update that caused this.
2. **They had “never heard” of S22+ having this issue** – total lie because I found **many people online** reporting the exact same thing.
3. **I had to pay for the screen replacement** – as if I dropped the phone myself or something.I argued with them, pointing out that **Samsung had already offered free screen replacements for older models (like the S21) with the same issue**. Then suddenly, they changed their tune and **agreed to replace my screen for free**, calling it a **”goodwill gesture”** (still refusing to admit fault). I was told to submit my phone on a specific date for repair.
# Then Samsung’s Update Bricked My Phone
Before the repair date, I installed **another software update**, and this time, my phone **overheated during the update and got stuck in a boot loop**—**stuck at the Samsung logo, won’t turn on, won’t turn off unless the battery drains completely**.
I went back to the **same service center**, and now they tell me **”motherboard issue, we can’t repair the phone in this condition.”** So I email Samsung again about this new issue, and here’s where they get even worse:
1. **Now they admit** the green line issue is “known” (so much for the *goodwill gesture* excuse earlier).
2. **But now they blame me for the motherboard issue**, saying they **have never heard of this happening before.**
3. **They closed my case**, claiming I didn’t visit the service center in time (when **they** were the ones who sent me back).
4. **Now they refuse to cover the motherboard repair** and expect me to pay for it myself.# Samsung is Straight-Up Lying – I Have Proof
I checked **Reddit, Twitter, and other forums**, and **tons of people are reporting the exact same issues after updates**:
* **Green lines appearing after an update** – Like what happened to me.
* [Reddit Link 1](https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS22/comments/1jgca1z/green_line/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
* **Phones getting stuck in a boot loop after updates, leading to motherboard failure** – Exactly what happened to mine.
* [Reddit Link 2](https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS22/comments/1485baw/stuck_in_boot_loop_after_updating/?utm_source=chatgpt.com)So **they KNOW this is an issue but still refuse to take responsibility.**
# Now What? Do I Need a Lawyer?
I’ve been **without my phone for 2 months**, and as a **student**, it’s screwing me over big time. I can’t:
* **Access study materials.**
* **Use banking apps.**
* **Communicate properly for academics and personal life.**Samsung is clearly **not going to own up unless I push legally.** So what should I do?
* **Should I go to consumer court?**
* **Do I need a lawyer for this, or can I handle it myself?**
* **Are there specific Indian consumer laws that can force them to fix my phone for free?**
* **Has anyone here taken legal action against Samsung in India for similar cases?**I don’t see why I should pay for **repairs caused by their own updates**. If anyone has dealt with something like this before, I’d appreciate any advice.
TL;DR – **Samsung updates ruined my S22 Plus screen (green lines) and then bricked my motherboard (bootloop). They lied, denied responsibility, and are refusing to repair it. What’s the best legal course of action to make them fix it for free?**

March 24, 2025 at 5:53 amRaise a complaint with national consumer helpline. You can do that with chat on whatsapp or just by going to their website. Takes about a month to resolve.-

March 24, 2025 at 6:52 amThis is messed up, we shell out the extra money for these so called trusted brands and they screw us over. I’m planning to buy a phone and was hoping to get a s25 since they promise 6-7years of updates. But this makes no sense now, I’d rather get a chinese phone at 30-40k and switch every 4 years instead of paying double for the long term support for these brands. -

March 25, 2025 at 7:07 amI have a similar issue. I bought an S21 FE 5G device in January 2023 and had no issues with it until January 2025, when a white line appeared on my display out of nowhere after a software update. I contacted the official service centre, and they quoted ₹13,000 for repairs, as my device was long past its warranty.
Only when I contacted Samsung’s toll-free number did they inform me that Samsung is covering this issue, under the following conditions:
1. Device must be first-owned.
2. The purchase date should be less than 3 years ago.
3. The device should not be any physical/water damaged on the device.
4. This offer is only valid until 31-03-2025.I was told that I only had to pay labour charges of approximately ₹1200. This is less than 10% of the original quote, so I agreed and submitted my device. It was supposed to take 4 days for the repair.
However, there was some issue with the bill (I ordered through Amazon), and the service centre refused to honour Samsung’s commitment.Solution used:
1. I lodged a complaint against Samsung with NCH. As of yesterday, I received Samsung’s official confirmation that:
a. They will honour the commitment regardless of any billing issue.
b. The charge will be approximately ₹500, and it will take one day for the repair.
c. I can get this repaired well beyond the aforementioned date of 31-03-2025.I have not taken Samsung up on this offer, as due to the billing issues, I have Amazon’s official confirmation that they will either provide me with a brand-new device or refund my money.

April 11, 2025 at 6:23 amThis literally just happened to me the other day. They said my warranty was up so they couldn’t replace my phone for free. I had to pay 149 for my insurance deductible and got a new phone. They wouldn’t waive the deductible either.
The old phone was stuck in a loop. After 24 hours of trying to turn it on over and over again, I finally got it in recovery mode and was able to do a factory reset, it was my last ditch attempt to see if it would turn my phone back on. It didnt work.
Not only did I have to pay money out of pocket due to Samsungs faulty update, but I also lost all of my photos and videos that I hadn’t backed up. Some of which had very important irreplaceable memories.
Class action?
