April 21, 2025 at 2:27 pmSo, long story short, I have this chacha who’s been super forcey about investing in his son’s trading. I knew it was a lost cause, but to shut him up, I gave him 1L three months back (basically chhod diya, shanti chahiye thi).Fast forward, now they’re demanding 5L more.I said no, obviously. Then the emotional blackmail started, “Bhai hoke help kar de” like I owe them my kidney. Things got ugly, heated argument happened, and I thought that’s the end of it.
Today, I find my bank statement and account details on Twitter. Some rant post about “Indian relatives are snakes” with MY SENSITIVE INFO EXPOSED. Turns out, the dude got my details because I paid by cheque last time. The worst part is the screenshot was from SBI’s internal system, showing the branch and login ID of the employee who accessed and leaked it. They were checking if I was lying about not having money.
I lost it and immediately tweeted tagging SBI, emailed the regional head, and sent a legal notice. This is a huge breach, imagine your banking details floating around because some entitled jerk didn’t get his way.
Now, the bank employee (probably the one who shared it) is blowing up my phone, crying and begging me to withdraw the complaint. Says “job chali jayegi, family sadak pe aa jayegi” and all. I feel bad, he messed up, but I know he’s just a pawn in this.
What do I do? Let it go because the employee’s life will be ruined or push harder because this is a serious privacy violation and banks cannot be this careless?
Also, how do I deal with the chacha and his startup scammer son? Blocking isn’t enough, they’ve crossed every line.

April 21, 2025 at 7:53 pmYou are at a crossroad where you can either not pursue it and have some peace of mind.Or you can pursue it, have a bit of rough time, but get the benefits of having SBI be accountable. None of this will hurt your chacha & cousin in the slightest.

April 23, 2025 at 8:36 pmEvery suit that is filed in court “can” lead to a bad confrontation. Every FIR registered can lead to the guy who goes to jail (if he doesn’t get bail)/ prison (if he does get convicted) can always come after you when they are released. To answer your question, I do “really think” what I said. Filing a suit is a hassle, whether it is court hassle, lawyer hassle or the other party hassling you.
Doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it.

And you are insane for giving that 1L. That’s how you show you can be pushed around.

April 23, 2025 at 2:19 amSeriously, employees losing employment for silly mistakes or errors they committed while doing job.
They will give warning letter and told not to any malpractice and SOP’s of the bank.As far as compensation is concerned, u will not get more than few thousands. If u lost any money due to bank mistake, then u have to show evidence that u lost money due to bank mistake only and u will get compensation in lieu of money lost.
Make a complaint to bank or others and ask for punishment and they will take action on employee.
Move on boss.
It is my opinion, not worth the effort of serious legal drama. Do u think it will change all data privacy problems country facing?

We need to make example of criminals and the punishments so that other “wannabe criminals” know what would they face if they follow the same path.

April 22, 2025 at 2:39 amDon’t let them go easy. It happened with my father too. We were selling a flat and our buyer was getting a loan from IndiaBulls. They asked my father to share bank statements to confirm whether the buyer has actually paid us. My father said he will send it in 2-3 days. The IndianBulls guys were like no can you do it today, my dad said can’t do. Then the Indiabulls guys called their contact in SBI and they asked to send over my dad’s bank statement without asking my father. My dad was pissed af. The IndianBulls guys were like oh this is not a big thing, we do it for lots of our clients to proceed and laughed. My dad registered a complaint but then since we didn’t have name or employee code who helped Indiabulls we couldn’t go any further. -

If he calls you again tell him to call your chacha itself. And that they are responsible for his job loss. Not you.
As for your relatives, cut them off. I’m sure a lawyer can find a creative way since they exposed your data on social media.

April 23, 2025 at 2:19 amAs someone in the Banking industry, I can confidently say that SBI won’t fire him for his mistake, they may chargesheet him or maybe give him a salary reduction. That said persuing this matter further or not is entirely upto you given the fact that it was your own relatives who started this, if you were to extract justice for this breach of privacy you have to sue your relatives too to be fair. -

April 23, 2025 at 4:25 amThis is important. Pursue with your complaint and also ask SBI to take action against the bank manager too. This is a serious breach and questions the credibility of the bank, that too of sbi.
There is no banking without integrity at its core. Such employees shouldn’t be allowed around banking systems at all.-

April 24, 2025 at 7:51 amRepeating what I said in the earlier post.Your privacy was breached in one of the worst ways. You need to pursue legal action against SBI and your relative. I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice but you need to consult a lawyer and proceed with wrecking havoc. SBI needs to get their shit together and your relatives who have crossed every line need to know actions have consequences.

April 27, 2025 at 6:44 amDon’t let it go. File a complaint with the bank and the police. He is a banker that warrants an extremely high level of trust and ethical behavior. He chose to do this. He did this to you – he probably does this regularly. Can we really trust a person like this to manage billions and trillions of our countries assets and our money? With this logic – he can just debit anyone’s account and credit his account. Please don’t let this slide. Banks and especially government bank employees take things really lightly like they’re above the law and own the country.
