March 28, 2025 at 1:29 amSCAM Alert!!My husband received a call from someone posing as a representative of the U.S. Embassy in Atlanta. They told him that his phone number was linked to suspicious activities and that a CBI report was being filed against him. They warned that if he failed to provide information, he would be in serious trouble.
When he asked for their identity to verify their legitimacy, they sent him a fake police ID, claiming to be from the “Mumbai Police,” and requested his personal information—such as his Aadhaar card, passport details, travel history, and U.S. driver’s license.
They also sent a PDF made to look like a legal document and told him not to share the conversation with anyone, claiming that if he did, others could get into trouble as well. They threatened that if he disclosed anything, they would notify U.S. immigration authorities and he would be arrested immediately.
As soon as he shared the details with me, I realized it was a scam. I found similar posts on Reddit indicating that this has happened to many others. Unfortunately, the scammers now have access to his passport details, travel history, visa information, and U.S. driver’s license.
We’ve just filed a report at our local police station here in the U.S., but we’re not sure what to do next. Can someone please advise on what actions we should take?
