March 1, 2025 at 9:49 pmI am from Ahmedabad. I got scammed 50k from a fake escort agency. The guy told me that I will have to pay for charges for confirmation for which I will receive a refund. Then the guy proceeded to add charges. Total amount was 50k and the guy was asking for more charges. I couldn’t pay anymore so I said to cancel. Everything happened on WhatsApp and then I proceeded to block the WhatsApp number. They even asked for ID for which I gave a friend’s ID but deleted the same later. When I was told that I live outside Gujarat I have to pay further, I paid. Then the scammer proceeded to make excuses that the mode of payment wasn’t right. I deleted all my messages for everyone. Then I proceeded to block the number. Then I receive a text from a different number that the person and the person threatened me that he will lodge a police complaint. Eventually, i blocked him as well and proceeded to clear chats. I had paid through phonepe. Now what misuse can the scammer make considering he has receipts and transaction ID of the transactions. Moreover, what steps can I take to recover the amount. If I receive further calls from the same person what should I do? Can the scammer take any steps in the police against me? -

March 1, 2025 at 9:59 pmThis is very a common scam. Very likely they are just trying to see if they can get more money out of you through threats. Almost zero chance to get back any money too. If you get police involved, you have to reveal you gave your friend’s ID without his consent to avail of this service, which might land you in trouble for misusing his ID.Best move is just to ignore all forms of communication, and it should stop once they realize they are not getting anything more out of you.

March 2, 2025 at 5:50 amAnd what kind of friend are you to share his/her id? A friend gave you ID in trust. You’re the reason there are trust issues amongst the friends. -
