January 13, 2025 at 6:08 pmA friend of mine, who’s currently in Canada, is dealing with a really difficult situation in her marriage and has finally decided to get a divorce. She’s been married for almost 10 years and has been doing everything she can to make it work for the past 5 years.Last year, she moved to Canada after her husband relocated there, even finding a job to support herself and try to rebuild their relationship. But despite all her patience and effort, he hasn’t attempted to work on things or even spend time with her.
To make things worse, she recently found out that he cheated on her, and it broke her. They had a love marriage—she went against her family’s wishes to be with him because they were best friends in college. This betrayal has completely shaken her.
They got married in India, but since she’s living in Canada now, she’s unsure whether she should file for divorce in Canada or consult a lawyer in India. If anyone has any advice on what she should do or knows of good lawyers (preferably in India) who can help, please let me know. I want to help her get through this. TIA.
**TL;DR:**
A friend in Canada wants a divorce after discovering her husband’s infidelity. Married in India, she’s unsure whether to file in Canada or consult a lawyer in India—seeking advice or recommendations.

January 13, 2025 at 7:14 pmCanada is not a reciprocating territory for India for divorces. So a divorce in Canada is not valid in India. If it’s a mutual divorce, as long as certain verbiage is in it, I think you can get it legalized in India. -
