April 14, 2025 at 5:55 amHello People,
Does anyone know what are the consequences of selling their car without RC transfer but an agreement? Have you had an experience around this? The carβs owner is in US and looking at the current situation, they will only be able to come to India after a year.
Need advice. -

April 14, 2025 at 7:41 amHad read a related incident here on Reddit on this topic.Someone had an old scooter (Bajaj Chetak) and it was way too old and not working, so the owner sold it at scrap value to a nearby garage shop without doing any paper work.
The scooter rusted there for couple of years in the garage, when one new mechanic decided to repair it as a pet project to showoff his skills. He was able to fix the scooter to bare minimum so that it would start.
The mechanic took the scooter for a test drive, and accidentally killed a child.
Since the scooter was still under Owner’s name, FIR was lodged against him and he was made the main accused!
Indian vehicle laws are shit, hence never sell your vehicle without transferring the ownership in RC.

April 16, 2025 at 11:38 pmI believe buyer is responsible for registering car. Exchange money and hand over keys once they transfer the RC to their name.
