April 30, 2025 at 6:23 amSo yesterday a sold my old laptop, which I wasn’t using because I have a ps5 now. The buyer came to my home checked the laptop and already bargained and reduced the price. I was in no mood to sell at that price but I was late and he wasn’t leaving. Now the next day he texts me saying the laptop screen blinks. I have been using this laptop for 1-1.5 years mostly gaming. The screen blinking started happening but it was just once or twice when playing high end games. Apart from that everything was fine in that laptop.
Now he sends me a video of the laptop in which it is blinking continuously, something that has never happened before. He’s saying that the motherboard is faulty which I am sure can’t be the case. Like the laptop was working fine just yesterday and now it has motherboard issues!!
I’m fine taking the laptop back but what if he changed the parts, sold some stuff, replaced a few things.
He is saying he will make a police complaint and other stuff.
What should I do?
I tried calling him but he didn’t pick up my call and when I asked what’s the issue, he said he’ll call me directly in police station.

OP himself said that it was once or twice so I don’t think it was possible to notice this at the time of sale unless this information was delivered before sale.

April 30, 2025 at 8:58 amFollowing u/Visual-Maximum-8117 ‘s comment:olx sale gone wrong. Can the buyer come to my house with police? Or, the police don’t have jurisdiction because it is a civil case?
# ChatGPT said:
If an OLX sale goes wrong, whether the police can come to your house depends on the **nature of the dispute**โ**criminal or civil**:
# ๐จ 1. If it’s a civil matter (e.g., dispute over item quality, refund demand):
* **Police generally do not have jurisdiction.** Civil matters are for **civil courts**, not the police.
* A buyer can **file a civil suit** against you but **cannot involve police directly**.
* Police cannot **force you** to refund or reverse a sale in such cases.# ๐ 2. If it’s a criminal matter (e.g., fraud, cheating, misrepresentation with intent):
* The buyer may lodge an **FIR under Section 420 IPC** (cheating) or similar.
* If the police find **prima facie evidence of criminal intent**, they **can visit your house** for questioning, or to serve notice, and in serious cases, make arrests.
* But even then, **they must follow due process**โthey cannot harass you without a valid legal basis.# โ What You Should Do:
* **Stay calm** if someone threatens to call the police. Ask them to **send legal notice** or proceed legally.
* If police do come, you can **cooperate respectfully**, ask for the **FIR details**, and consult a lawyer.
* **Keep records** of chats, payments, and item condition to protect yourself.Would you like to share what specifically went wrong in the sale so I can advise more precisely?

April 30, 2025 at 6:30 amDon’t pickup calls, Once you sell a product and get the money – it is gone in “as-is” condition.
If it fails after x days, you won’t be responsible.
Surely parts could have been changes, voluntarily broken if he got a later better deal and wants to get that after making you give up the money. Now cops get this and normally won’t get into this smaller troubles, If they do – Don’t go to the station alone, either go with a lawyer or someone influential, only after they formally summon you.
Going to station once they call, without them even registering a CSR will lead to your purse being drained.
This is not a big issue, stay chill and use the BRAIN.

April 30, 2025 at 6:34 amNALHe checked the laptop and purchased it. Sucks to say this as I have purchased a lot of stuff from OLX but itโs a buyerโs loss now.
Let him file a complaint, as if police would even entertain such a silly complaint. If possible , extract CCTV footage from your society to track the timestamp of when he came and when he left – proving he had ample time to do the necessary checks.
He has no legal standpoint. Itโs just a regretful loss at his end.

April 30, 2025 at 8:46 amLmao police complaint.
Police in india wouldn’t register his complaint even if you slapped him let alone selling a faulty laptop.Keep your doors locked nicely for few days.
If he comes to threaten you call police immediately.
And if someone calls from his side and claims to be police, be sure its fake. -
