        Hello everyone,

I’ve Star Health policy for the past 10 years. Recently, while renewing my policy, I requested Star Health to add Pre-Existing Diseases (PEDs) to my policy. However, they declined, citing the following reason:

*”With reference to your mail, we have carefully examined the documents submitted by the insured during the proposal process. Our medical panel has thoroughly reviewed the information and identified that, the disease or ailment/illness if found after inception of policy. It is not required to disclose under policy as a pre-existing disease (PED).”*

        To provide more context:

        * I originally had the MediClassic policy but migrated to the Assure policy.
        * I also upgraded my sum insured from **₹3L to ₹10L** during this migration.
        * I attempted to port my policy to HDFC but was rejected, so I haven’t tried with any other insurer since then.
        * Additionally, I underwent surgery last year, which complicates my eligibility for porting at the moment.

I’m confused and unsure how to proceed. On one hand, it seems they are saying the condition isn’t considered a PED because it occurred after the policy inception. On the other hand, I’m worried about future claims being denied due to undisclosed conditions.

Has anyone faced a similar situation?

        * Should I push for this to be added as a PED for peace of mind?
        * Do I have grounds to escalate this further?
        * Any tips on how to deal with Star Health or ensure I’m fully covered?

I’d really appreciate any advice or suggestions from those who’ve dealt with similar cases. Thanks in advance!

Maybe mail them back to confirm which case it is. The wording seems to suggest that it won’t be counted as PED because it occured after policy inception but better to have it written from them.

Could you confirm what you mean by which case it is? The quoted remarks are received on email only. I have always heard to add the PEDs in the policy, it would be helpful for porting as well later. Not sure how to go ahead on this.

I mean to say confirm from them whether it will be covered under the renewed insurance if something happens because of these PEDs.

Ok, should I raise it to grievance officer first?
