May 8, 2025 at 7:40 amI’m supposed to testify in court tomorrow as a witness in a case from nearly a year ago. It was a serious family dispute — my father was physically attacked by a close relative, and I reached the spot in time to stop things from getting worse. The attacker was arrested but later got out, possibly on bail or medical grounds.Since the FIR, nothing happened legally — no court dates or anything — until now. Suddenly, I’ve been summoned to testify.
The case is the perpetrator vs the state, can DM for more details.
I’ve never been through this before and don’t know what to expect or how to manage the case.
The last lawyer we took on took a monthly random amount to the tune of 3-5K/p.m which I didn’t know of since my family paid him until I got them to stop. He’d say that it’s for the application or random stuff like that but there was hardly any event that was happening, it was all the default govt procedure happening with the state people. I didn’t see anything in the case documents I found online that’d even mention our or the lawyer’s name.
We filed the FIR, the case documents mention it to be a criminal case where the petitioner is the state + Advocate APO & the respondent is the attacker.
For now, I’m confused as to how to choose a good lawyer who ethically deals with the matter. Also, how does the pricing work for lawyers, in a tier 4 or such urban town.

May 8, 2025 at 8:02 amIt sounds like an overwhelming situation, especially having to relive a traumatic family incident in court, with safety concerns still hanging over you. It’s completely understandable to feel confused and cautious, especially after your past experience with that lawyer. You’re doing the right thing by trying to stay informed and protect your family while navigating a complicated system. -
